September 21st Grand Opening of the Huck Finn Freedom Center; Jim's Journey was a huge success as we welcomed nearly 200 visitors to the Program and tours of the museum. The Program included special guest, Larry McCarty, descendent of Daniel Quarles -prototype for Jim of the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

EXPERIENCE A HISTORY TOLD BY THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED IT -- HANNIBAL, MISSOURI

View an Exhibit which captures the history of these very ordinary people who were dependent on one another for survival.

"Hannibal's history is intertwined with the presence of African Americans who were brought to the settlement as slaves, built a thriving racially segregated community as newly freed citizens, and despite the constraints of segregation, worked with the broader community to promote Hannibal as an excellent pace to live and raise children".

Because much of this history has unfortunately been lost, we'd hoped to recreate it through personal photographs, newspaper articles, narratives and other memorabilia.
